Questions about PGB.

What is a PGB and how do I apply?

A PGB (Persoonsgebonden Budget) is a personal budget from the municipality that lets you choose and pay for your own support, rather than receiving care assigned to you. To apply, you contact your gemeente (in Eindhoven: WIJeindhoven) and request a WMO assessment. During that conversation you indicate that you want your support in the form of a PGB rather than zorg in natura. The municipality then assesses your situation and, if approved, grants a budget. The process typically takes four to six weeks. The Bonusbuur coordinator can help you prepare for the assessment conversation and explain how to describe the support you need.

Yes. Once your PGB is approved, payments to your student run through the SVB (Sociale Verzekeringsbank). This involves a care agreement that the SVB must approve before payments begin. The coordinator helps you fill in the correct forms, submit the agreement, and make sure everything is in order. You don't need to navigate the SVB portal alone.

A PGB is a form of WMO budget, it's the version where you manage the spending yourself rather than the gemeente arranging care for you. If you currently receive WMO support as care in natura (meaning the municipality arranges and pays a provider directly), you can ask your municipality to convert part of it to a PGB so you can use it for Bonusbuur. This requires a new indication decision, which the coordinator can help you request. Note that Bonusbuur is non-medical practical support, the WMO category that fits is "ondersteuning bij het huishouden" (household support) with or "begeleiding," (guidance) depending on what you and your student agree to do together.

It happens, and it doesn't mean you can't use Bonusbuur. The most common reasons for denial are: the municipality judges the support unnecessary, or they believe a ''voorziening'' (care in natura) is more appropriate. If denied, you have the right to file a formal objection within six weeks. The coordinator can help you understand the decision letter and connect you with free municipal legal aid if needed. In the meantime, you can still use Bonusbuur by paying privately at €18 per hour. Many clients do this while their PGB application is being processed or reconsidered.

That depends on your indication, the assessment decision from the gemeente. Most WMO-PGB indications for guidance or household support range from two to six hours per week. The municipality determines the number based on your situation, not on what Bonusbuur offers. In practice, most Bonusbuur clients use two to four hours per month (one to two visits), which fits comfortably within even a modest indicatie. If your needs change, you can request a re-indication for more hours.
